Building bamboo villages beyond Indonesian borders
OUR ROADMAP: REACHING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS WHILE EMPOWERING RURAL COMMUNITITES
Our foundation strives to support the government in balancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with rural communities’ needs, who have long depended upon these lands for their livelihood.
Specifically, we seek to seed partnerships in nine countries across the equatorial belt to implement 10,000 Bamboo Villages globally by the end of this decade. We believe that exporting the model beyond Indonesia’s boundaries will demonstrate the nation’s contribution to climate change mitigation while offering a development model that is more equitable and ecologically suitable for degraded areas globally.
Every village that joins the initiatives will be scheduled into four phases, executed in collaboration with landscape partners that include grassroots and women’s organisations.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
By 2024 we expect to have another 200 Bamboo Villages entering the fold, with the following targets:
villages with existing bamboo stocks will be prioritised, so we can start the harvest immediately.
adjacent villages will be in the next phase to accelerate the scale-up.
villages around the protected state forest areas will serve as buffer zones, reducing the risk of encroachment into high biodiversity areas.
To reach this milestone, we are looking forward to draw in US$228 million in investment by 2023. In lockstep with the increased amount of semi-processed bamboo produced in Bamboo Villages, we will also establish an international marketing consortium to continue growing demand for bamboo.
